The 2017 Cross-Strait Deep Seated Landslide Workshop was successfully held in Chengdu Ruicheng Celebrity Hotel on August 22, 2017. The conference was hosted by the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Academician Peng Cui of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor Xiao-Qing Chen of the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences were chairman of this conference. More than 150 scholars shared their new ideas, advanced methods and current trends in Deep Seated Landslide research. They contributed to Cross-Strait Deep Seated Landslide research. Focus on mechanisms, countermeasures, predictions, challenges and other issues surrounding Deep Seated Landslide raised in-depth discussions. It is hoped that through the establishment of such a communication platform as well as academic exchanges and cooperation, Deep Seated Landslide research in China can be further promoted.

Background

In global climate change and earthquakes in recent years, collapses, landslides and other disasters occur frequently, disasters are easy to cause secondary disasters, such as debris flows and landslide-dammed lake, which caused heavy casualties and property losses. For example, In May, 2008, Wenchuan 8.0 earthquake caused many collapses, landslides and other disasters, some landslide masses blocked rivers and formed the landslide-dammed lakes, in a few years after the earthquake, the earthquake disaster area, have the rainfall induced collapse, landslide and debris flow events. Therefore, how to cope with the increasing mass collapse and landslide is the most important scientific problem.

The Cross-Strait Deep Seated Landslide Workshop was proposed to provide a platform to hold academic conferences and trainings, to promote the project collaboration, to improve the deep seated landslide study and mitigation technology in Cross-Strait. The workshop was successfully Held in Chengdu, Sichuan. Researchers of Cross-Strait attach great importance to disasters such as collapse and landslide.

Objective

The Workshop will provide a forum for Cross-Strait landslide researchers to exchange ideas and share experiences on how to cope with deep seated Landslide hazards using the most advanced, state-of-art methodologies in mechanics as well as in hazard prediction composed disaster prevention and risk assessment. How to strengthen the Cross-Strait cooperation of deep seated Landslide research is the other focus of this Workshop.
